Another day at Mesa Rim Austin. I spent the first hour stretching, warming up, and doing some weighted pullups. I realized I haven’t shared my stretching routine yet, so here it is.
-Lizard Lunge, 1 minute intervals per side, 3 sets
-Pigeon Pose, 1 minute intervals per side, 3 sets
-Frog Pose, 1 minute intervals, 3 sets
-Half Splits, 1 minute intervals, 3 sets per side

I realize it goes against common literature to do static stretching
1) as a warm up
2) before climbing hard

To preface, I do a few swinging leg raises, about 30, before jumping into static stretches. Most of the reasoning behind avoiding static stretches before exercise is due to the fact that total working power is slightly diminished after hard static stretching. I do not feel like my climbing is limited by having slightly less hip abductor or hamstring power. Plus, I just enjoy it.

After the stretching, I moved into some weighted pullups. I did 3 sets of 3 reps with 45lbs and felt pretty good, so I finished off sets 4 and 5 with 70lbs. This felt good to me and provided some reassurance I am getting stronger. My goal is to get to 100lbs for a few reps so I can move on to attempting one arm pullups.

Climbing itself was fun, but I did not get many sends. There was a blue v7 that I really struggled with, falling off the last move several times. My other projects had some progress, but no significant gains. I did send perhaps the softest v8 I’ve ever touched though, so that was nice. A v8 in < 5 attempts is pretty far from the average for me. I’ll attach the videos below! Need to get the ol’ instagram spun back up again. Thanks for reading!
